I Have Been Watching Too Much Jane Austin Lately
And wrestling for that matter. I dreamt more than once that I pulled some awesome wrestling moves off on a girl who I used to be friends with a long time ago. Last night Stone Cold Steve Austin infiltrated my dreams and bought everyone Slurpees from 7-11. ![]() I know right, I'm totally crazy. This morning I woke up with this song from L'Arc~en~Ciel stuck in my head. I've listened to it three or four times this morning and I while I was watching that video I decided that it is what falling in love would sound like if it had a sound. I found the translated lyrics for it and I don't think my feelings were too far off. This song grabs at my heart in a similar way that Aaron does. ![]() Contimplating things like the way love sounds is a giveaway that I have been watching too many Jane Austin movies- the new Emma, Emma w/Gweneth Paltrow, and the new Sense & Sensibility in the last week!! After I listen to this song a few more times, I think I'll get back to work. ![]() OH! And speaking of work, I have news! On May 9th Aaron and I are starting up our own video game store! Sunken Treasures Games is going to be real in a week and a half! We are sooo excited! I went to Ikea yesterday to buy stuffs for it. More infor an pictures will follow (probably on the STG website) when we have those to post! So I am off to print off flyers to hand out to people. *waves*

A Joy-ful Concoction
Yesterday I found this amazing food blog Joy The Baker and spent quite a while reading through her awesome recipes. Her blog posts are funny and charming. She brings so much personality to her posts, I love it. Her photos are beautiful. Joy is nothing short of a brilliant cook. Her recipes like Burnt Banana Chocolate Malted Milkshake, Roasted Garlic Soup with Rosemary Potatoes, Cinnamon Sugar Pull Apart Bread, Cashew Oat Milk (holy crap this is so cool I have to try this!), Sweet Breakfast Polenta, Hasselback Potatoes w/Spinach Cashew Pesto (this makes my mouth water), Bloody Mary's (I've never had one, never been super interested in havnig one until now), and Tosted Mashmallow Milkshake, are so delicious looking, easy to make, made with few ingredients which means I'll most likely try it, and twists on traditional favorites to spice up the norm. Last night, after a watching The Big Labowski with Aaron, all I wanted was something sweet. Preferably with half a bag of the mini chocolate chips I had stashed in my cupboard. After reading five pages of Joy's blog, I felt inspired. I wanted to make a concoction of my own. After quickly going through my fridge and pantry I came to the sad realization I was out of eggs. This limited what I could make. Or did it? I grabbed my Bisquick, and a few other things, threw them into a bowl, put it into the oven and voila: My Joy-ful Concoction 1 1/4 cup Bisquick 3/4 cup sugar 1/8 cup cinnamon/sugar mix 3/4 cup milk 1/2 bag mini chocolate chips Mix all ingredients together. Spray muffin tins with baking spray. Fill each cup 1/2 full. Back at 350* for 15 mins. All this writing about food is making me hungry. I'm off to distract myself so I don't get more hungry.

"Survivor" The Yakima Allied Arts center in partnership with the Comprehensive Mental Health - Victim Advocacy Services have had on display for the last few weeks a wonderful exhibit called "Survivor". The exhibit was a way for artists to speak about their experiences, thoughts, and/or feelings about abuse, assault, war, death, healing, and recovery. My sister Kindra and I drove over there to see it yesterday because my Mom and my other sister Rachel both submitted art to it. Click the pictures for larger images. This one was made by Mom using broken glass grouted together. I think it's just gorgeous! These were both painted by my sister Rachel. We think someone bought the gun painting which is awesome! There were about thirty other artists with breath taking pieces. Two pieces, in particular, were journals by this girl who went through a very rough time and turned to scrapbooking to cope. I had never seen anything like it. If anyone is in the area, you should stop by to see the exhibit. It goes until Thursday. Today was kinda "blustery". Kinda like Pooh Bear and the Blustery day. The sun was out though so that made me happy. It inspired me to make a new playlist: Tonight is going to be another adventurous night in my kitchen- I'm going to attempt to make yakisoba. The recipe is from RunnyRunny999 who's okonomiyaki recipe which I successfully made, so I'm thinking I will do pretty well with this one. Enjoy the rest of your day!!

Seductive Saturday and Oi Muchim
So kinda gave myself a goal of doing "Makeup Monday" every Monday, but since that's my day off I find myself wanting to stay in pj's and lounge on the couch rather than getting made up and doing a tutorial. No biggy though. I did one today making it "Seductive Saturday"! ![]() I'm really loving ELF's eyeshadow palletes so I'm using the Smoky Edition: ![]() ![]() ![]() This look is bolder than my previous tutorials but it brightens up the eyes and adds a splash of color. Mostly, I think it's super cute ![]() Last night I tried another new dish. It is a Korean cucumber salad called "oi muchim". I found it on KoreanCuisine's Youtube channel. This was spicy but delicous! Yum yum yum! This got a 9/10. Next time I make it I'll know to add a little bit more sugar to fend off some of the spiciness. I highly recommend this for a side dish for any occasion. It is definitely going to be popping up again and again at meals, parties, and speical occasions for us.

Taco Omurice
Last night for dinner I made Taco Omurice which is a taco rice omelette. It may sound wierd, but it was so delicious! Omurice is a very popular dish in Japan. Generally, omurice is made of fried rice fried with ketchup, surrounded by an omelette garnished with more ketchup. The fried rice filling varies a lot. But this version is probably my favorite- spicy Mexican flavored meat with tomatoes, lettice, and green onions, topped with guacamole. Mmm! I followed BobbyJudo's reicpe video on Youtube. ![]() This was a 9.5/10 that that's only because I forgot to put olives on it and I wasn't drinking a Mexican or Japanese beer with it. This was so easy and quick to make. Aaron and I both downed ours insanely fast. It is going to be a staple dish in our house from now on.

Wall of Noise #1 Playlist
Sometimes I can physically feel music around me. When the volume is just right and the instuments combine to make a magic wall of noise that surrounds me- I love it! These are a few songs that make me feel that way. Two of the songs are Japanese, but they're both worth listening to- they are upbeat and rocking. Enjoy! The waterfall in the background is Polouse Falls. It's the in middle of the desert a few hours from where I live. Pretty huh?

New foods
Since we couldn't go to Japan and experience ethnic food, I started bringing ethic food home to us. This all started last
week while doing some food blog hopping which turned into a bunch of Youtube video watching. I have discovered that a bunch of dishes I thought were scary or weird really aren't too different from what I normally eat and like. This has spawned quality bonding time with my kitchen and produced some delicious new dishes.
The first such dish is a korean vegetable pancake called "yachaejeon". Sounds totally weird, but it's not. All it is is: flour, baking power, water, green onions, chives, zucchini, and vegetable oil. Not too bad huh? Here's the video from Maangchi.com: Super easy and very yummy! I used Bisquick instead of flour because I only have whole wheat flour and wasn't sure how it would taste. So my pancake was very pancake-y but that wasn't a bad thing really. I rate my variation of it 7 out of 10. If you add Sriracha sauce to it I give it an 8.5/10 (so deliciously spicy)! With asian pancakes on the mind, I did some video hopping and found a "cheaters" version of a Japanese pancake called "okonomiyaki". Okonomiyaki is a tradition Japanese dish, and a dish taken very seriously, especially in Osaka. (We never had it while we were there though... )Okonomiyaki is my favorite new dish. It's quick, really healthy, an explosion of flavors, and mostly amazingly delicious! It got a 10/10 and I plan on making it again, for meals and even mini ones for parties. The only thing I did differently with this was add a ton of green onions in the mixture. Soooo delicious! ![]() My okonomiyaki If you have a local asian market, I HIGHLY recommend picking up some "okonomi" sauce. It's very similar to a sweet BBQ sauce. We've been topping our rice with it, but it's great as a condiment for anything- burgers, hot dogs, eggs, meatloaf, etc. I forget the price exactly, but I think it was $3-$5ish. Worth every penny. The next dish I'm going to try is kimchi. On Maangchi's website, she has an "emergency kimchi" recipe (normal kimchi from what I understand takes a while to make). Cabbage, hot pepper flakes, fish sauce (which you can use soy sauce instead), sugar, garlic green onions, and a carrot. Nothing crazy in that but the fish sauce, especially since you can swap it for the soy sauce. You can also play with the amount of hot pepper flakes, garlic, and sauce to make it as spicy as you'd like. I like all those veggies and I like spicy foods so this seems like something I would like. I'm going to try this out tonight if I can find cabbage. (The only cabbage I can find is thin and might as well be lettice which is lame).Another recipe of her's I'm tempted to try is her Korean-style cucumber pickles or "oigangaijji". I love pickles so this spicy pickle recipe sounds like it's right up my alley. Enough of food already! It's not even 4:00pm and I'm hungry! Two more hours until I get off work. Must get my mind preoccupied on something else! So I'm going to call my Mom. ![]()

Back from break
After having taken the last almost week off of work, I am back and rearing to go! I had very little to do when I got in
this morning thanks to Sean being awesome and keeping the store in ship-shape! For my birthday last Friday, Aaron bought me this amazing bed set (new sheets, pillow cases, and comforter) and I have been sleeping like a baby! My closest friends and family know that I don't ever sleep like a baby. My sinuses keep me up or bother me enough that I have a hard time getting rest. I don't know what it was about the new sheets, but oh my goodness did I sleep well since I put them on the bed! That, I'm sure, might have something to do with my great mood! ![]() It might also have something to do with me not wanting to get out of bed on Monday so I didn't end up posting a "Makeup Monday". Let me tell you how glorious it was lazy-ing around in bed until 10am! It was glorious! Well anyways, here is a little tutorial which includes makeup from one of ELF's new pallets: ![]() ![]() ![]() A: Benefit "Girl Meets Pearl" primer to help get rid of my huge pores, B: Benefit "Lemon Aid" to get rid of my dark circles, C: Maybelline "Age Rewind Eraser Foundation" (I admit it- I'm a squinter, I squint in the sun, when I'm concintrating, when I'm smiling, constantly, so I have small wrinkles and this helps), D: Mark by Avon powder compact, E: Mark by Avon light pink and white eye shadows to highlight my cheek bones, F: Mark by Avon blush, G: brownish- pink eyeshadow over the eyelids only, H: darker brown eyeshadow used as eyeliner along the outside corners only, about 1/2 across top lashline and 1/3 across bottom lashline, I: CoverGirl brown mascara. Now with that out of the way, on to FOOD! Mmm! Aaron made us dinner the other night in our new Japanese ceramic dishes: ![]() ![]() We wanted something authentic to eat our ramen in, since we eat a ton of it (well, mostly Aaron, but I do it also). It's pretty similar to what they used in Ponyo: ![]() Like our Star Wars Light Saber chopsticks? We couldn't resist! Haha! Dinner was soooooo good that night. I might have Aaron make dinner more often! ![]()

Makeup Monday
I got this idea from Keiko Lynn and was inspired to do my own. This last week or so I have really enjoyed low key natural/nude makeup. This look takes 3 minutes to put on so it's great for mornings when you're running late, not feeling like doing anything major, yet looks fresh and pretty.
![]() The items I used for this look include: ![]() A: Lemon Aid by Benefit for getting rid of dark circles (which I have every morning), B: Revlon "ColorStay" foundation, C: Mark by Avon powder, D: Mark by Avon "Dusty Rose" blush, E: ELF "Shimmering Facial Whip", F: Sally Hansen brown eyeliner, G: CoverGirl "LashBlast Volume" in brown. My makeup routine goes like this: Lemon Aid under the eyes, concealer if needed, apply foundation and use a sponge to blend, powder, blush only on the apples of my cheeks (I have a long face and if I apply across my entire cheek it makes my face look loooonger), eye shadow, eyeliner and mascara only on the outside corners of my eyes, chapstick, then on the rare occasion (like today) lipstick and gloss. How to on how I did my eye makeup: ![]() Like I said, it's low key, nothing fancy at all. Well, other than the lipstick it's not fancy. ![]() |
